Pettus Family Genealogy Forum
Hello to you Bill.....It has been a long time since we have been in contact. In case you don't remember, you called me on the phone once when you were in California. We learned about you and your work when we visited with Reginald, I believe in 1988. My husband, Edwin G.(Ted) Dean, Jr., is a Pettus descendant. His mother Ozella Stanfield Dean was the daughter of Thomas Buck and Rebecca Brooks Pettus Stanfield. Rebecca was the daughter of Edward Craddock Pettus who settled in Texas in the early 1800's and who is listed as one of "The Old Three Hundred".
I understand that you and Ted's cousin Brent Berry have been keeping in contact. I visited with Brent yesterday and he tells us that you have completed 500 pages of your Pettus book. We are very interested in what you are doing and would like to know how to purchase a book when it becomes available. He told me that you had figured out who your common anestor is. We would be interested to know that also.
The connection between Ted and Brent is as follows: Brent's great grandmother Cordelia (Katie) Stanfield Keck was an older sister of Ted's mother Ozella Stanfield Dean. Ozella was the youngest of 15 children and Katie was, I believe, the second child of Thomas and Rebecca. Ozella and Brent's grandmother Cora Keck Willson were about the same age. Although we have been living in Huntington Beach for about six years, we lived the rest of our lives in Whittier along with Brent and others in that family. Ted and Brent's mother have been more like brother and sister rather than cousins. She is a delightful lady! Enough for now....Monica Palmer Dean - TedMonicaD@cs.com
