Thaddeus Crane Wakeman/Lewis Stratton

I am seeking info on my great grandfather Thaddeus Crane Wakeman. I have recently discovered that upon the death of his wife in 1886, he changed his name to Lewis Stratton, and came to South Carolina, where he married a woman named Georgia, and had 3 children, Kathrine,(who married Roy Smith), George & Wilson. I found Katherine's name listed as a transcriber of inscriptions in the "Old York Cemetary" of the Pettus family. I had hoped that that might mean that her mother, Georgia's last name was Pettus. This is quite a family mystery, and I would be most grateful for any information anyone could give me.
Thank you!
Nancy Smyth
