William, my Clayton research has led me to a Mary Pettus, b about 1753. She married John Willis Clayton Sr, probably in Hanover Co., VA. They raised their family in Bedford Co., and named one child Rebecca DABNEY, another Susanna PETTUS, and altho I can't prove it, another PETTUS OVERTON Clayton. The book "Our Kin" shows Johns wife as Mary________, but one of Marys grandchildren wrote in her memoirs that Mary was a Pettus. I thought you might know where Mary could fit into your Pettus family.
