Don, at the moment I have no ideas about Mary Pettus, wife of John Willis Clayton, Sr., but I certainly will look into the matter, which is highly intriguing. Mention of the names, Dabney and Susanna, indicate that she was descended from Stephen Pettus and his wife Mary [?] Dabney, but I don't know how the Overton name got into that line. The combination of names for Mary's children is quite interesting and unusual. Can you send me the facts of publication of "Our Kin?" Who was the author? Can you provide any source citations for the information in your message? Will I be able to find any references to this family in the Bedford County records?
