Edward PETTUS, TN, LA, GA 1800s
My husband's family descends from Edward PETTUS and his second wife, Isabella, Richardson Widow. The 1860 census in Savannah, Chatham Co, GA (has Edward living in a boarding house with other painters, and his wife Isabella and her dau and granddau. lived together) has his birth as in Nashville, TN, and Isabella's in Fayetteville, NC.Their one daughter, Virginia Elizabeth PETTUS was said to be born in New Orleans, LA.
If anyone knows about Edward Pettus - actual birth is not really known, but the census records have him born from 1797 to 1804 according to ages, I would be very thankful.I have searched for him for a long time with nothing else other than his 2 census records in Savannah, GA.I have recearched the VA Pettus families, as the 1850 cnesus said he was born in VA (while the 1860 census said he was born in Nashville TN).I suspect that they all came from VA in the first place.
Isabella, b: Bet. May 1802 - 1804 was first married to a Richardson in NC, and was married to Edward PETTUS August 07, 1833 in Savannah, Chatham Co,GA - yet their daughter, named Virginia Elizabeth Pettus, born ca 1834-1835 was said to have been born in LA in 1850 census and in New Orleans LA in 1860 census records in Chatham Co, GA.Maybe they went by boat to LA and came back, but it seems rather odd.Virginia Elizabeth Pettus had her daughter Ida Amanda Pettus born May 4, 1856, (who later had the name of Sikes after her mother married a Thomas Sikes man in November 04, 1863in Savannah.)Ida married Jeremiah Wesley Brinson, M.D. in Savannah, March 02, 1875.They moved to Jefferson Co,GA then to Johnson Co, GA where they stayed and had many children and grandchildren.
I would appreciate any info on this family if anyone has him listed.
Thank you in advance
