My book is concerned primarily with Pettuses born in England and Virginia. Do you know where Thomas Frederick Pettus was born? Have you traced his ancestry back to a Virginia Pettus?

At least two Pettuses, Theodore and his older brother Thomas, emigrated to Virginia from Norwich, England, in the 17th C. A Stephen Pettis, whose identity is uncertain, arrived in Virginia before 1637. My book traces lines of descent from Thomas. Theodore had no known children. Whether Stephen had descendants is uncertain, although the name, Stephen Pettus, certainly shows up in later generations in Virginia.

The Pettuses of England were quite prominent, as was Thomas Pettus, immigrant, who served on the Council of State for twenty years.

My book, which is still in the edit phase, covers all of the known English Pettuses and their descendants in Virginia. I have included the children of Pettuses who migrated to other states and territories from Virginia.
