This person is your great grandfather. I mispoke in my last message. In 1917 he was LIVING in Sheffield, Colbert County Alabama. It doesn't say where he was born. He was a restaurant owner, it gives his work address and home address and that his wife was Prudia Elmer Roberts. If you want to give me your email address I will send an image of this document. It is a WW1 draft registration, it actually has his signature and a description of him on it.

I am almost certain that he is part of the Pettus family that married with the Jones and Winstons. Don't know how familiar or not you are with Tuscumbia, but this is the homeplace of the Winstons. Sheffield is where they lived it is right next to Tuscumbia. I was just there two weeks ago. Anyway, the Winstons/Jones/Pettus families lived in Northern Ala, and in area of Shelby, Fayette and Hardeman Counties TN. I will do more searching and let you know if I can find a link or not, but it looks awfully likely.
