Pettus Book Status

March was a very busy month with some major distractions from working on the index to my Pettus history book. First, I had to work on my tax returns, which is always a major undertaking. Second, I organized two reunions, one for my high school class in April, and one for the Pettus family of Virginia. The Pettus reunion took place in Richmond on 13 March with over fifty family members and friends coming from all over the state and beyond.

We had a guest speaker, Mr. Michael Loveday from Norwich, UK, who told us about the historic city; his activities with the Norwich Heritage, Economic Regeneration Trust; and the prominent Pettuses who lived there hundreds of years ago. His presentation concluded with an animation of Sir John Pettus, mayor of Norwich in 1608, stepping out of his mayoral portrait while giving an account of himself as he strolled through Blackfriars Hall.

I gave a short introductory talk on the ancestry of Col. Thomas Pettus of Littletown plantation, James City County, Virginia, and Norwich. I also provided pedigree charts for all family members who had registered in advance.

Mr. Loveday plans to make available a CD of his presentation to anyone who would like one in exchange for a nominal contribution to Norwich HEART (see above). I will provide additional information on this forum when the CD is available.

I am just four pages short of completing the index to chapter 10 and should finish later today or tomorrow. I have now indexed over 560 pages out of about 1340.
