Pettus Book Vol. II Status Report (010212)
Posted by: William Pettus (ID *****9435) Date: January 02, 2012 at 06:32:19

In December, I continued my review of the index entries from the two remaining genealogical chapters (generations 14 and 15) and then proceeded to check the entries from chapters 16 to 26, which develop the proof arguments leading to my version of the family tree in Virginia. I did this by generating a new index for each chapter, checking every entry against the main text, and highlighting checked or corrected entries in blue. I then compared the chapter indexes against the master index I created last summer. As mentioned in my posting last month, many of the entries generated automatically by my word processor were incorrect and had to be fixed. Before actually regenerating each chapter index, I took the time to review the text once more, particularly in the analytical chapters, where I review the evidence relating to a particular genealogical problem. In some cases, I was able to develop new insights that led to more succinct and convincing proof arguments. While these reviews may delay publication of my book, I am convinced that the additional time has been well-spent. By the way, Vol. II has 26 chapters plus appendixes A through S.
