Pettus Family Genealogy Forum
Last night, I forgot to confirm that Thomas and Theodore Pettus did have a sister named Christian, who remained in their home city of Norwich, England. I noticed your mention of the Mees/Meese family of Stafford Co., Va. It is interesting that "Thomas Pettus of little toun in Virginia, Esq., and his wife, Elizabeth [Durrent] empowered their good friend, "Sgt.Major Edward Griffith of Mulberry Island in Virginia, Gent." to sell Thomas's thousand-acre patent on Potomac Creek to Mr. Henry Meese, merchant. Thomas's patent lay on the south side of Potomac Creek in Northumberland Co. (now Stafford Co.). This information suggests that Thomas knew and entrusted Meese and that the Mees/Meeses of Stafford Co. were related to Henry Meese. See Nugent's Cavaliers and Pioneers for details of the patents.
One thing I am not yet clear about: Is the supposed marriage of Theodore Pettus to Ka-Okee part of the oral tradition on the Mattaponi tribe or was the tentative identification of Theodore Pettus as Ka-Okee's husband based upon modern genealogical research?
