(Colonel) James Grierson, Sr. of Larbreck Estate Farm

What was the relationship of Jane Pettygrew to (Colonel) James Grierson, Sr. of Augusta, Georgia in 1762 whenever they purchased land together? She was always believed to be his wife, but now, new information from North Kessock, Ross-shire and the Estate of Pitlundie and the family of Hamilton-Grierson makes it clear that this is probably not the case....and also that the brother of Colonel James, THOMAS GRIERSON died and was not killed by the rebels...it is also clear by the letter now held in the Mitchell Library archives section, second floor that their brother, William Grierson went home to Larbreck Estate Farm in Northern Britain and was there from at least, 1784-1801. The son of Colonel James Grierson, Sr., James, Jr. died and Thomas died in 1798 in Dumfries, buried at St. Michael's cemtery, his two daughters died early and David has yet to be accounted for.......but, we do know that Thomas who died in 1798 had at least one daughter, Louisa Grierson who married JOHN LITT, Merchant Glasgow, Scotland and they had a number of children, one in particular Helen Theresa Litt who married The Reverend Joseph Ballantine-Dykes and had a number, probably four children, one of which was Maude Theresa Ballantine-Dykes who apparently never married and passed the old family bible down to the father of Philip John Hamilton-Grierson, who passed it on to me of late:

Below are bible records donated by Philip John Hamilton-Grierson in February, 2006, most generously:

What I have found is a bible whose first page reads in ink " Augusta in Georgia.

[9] Katherine My dearly beloved and Sweet little daughter Died the 7th September 1779 about half an hour past 2 o'clock in the morning. She was a pretty and most promising child - my future hope and conastant care.

[10] James Grierson Junior Died at Augusta 10th March 1781. James Grierson Esq Colonel of the Militia of St Paul's parish in the province of Georgia was cruelly murdered by the Rebels in Augusta on the 7th day June 1781 two days after he surrendered in consequence of a Capitulation.
