What I know about Daniel Pew:
Born on 11 Jan 1841 in Ohio Ė I would assume Guernsey County. (His parents were Josephus Pew and Frances Lantz. I have more on that family too if you want it.)
I found Daniel in Centre Twp, Guernsey Co, OH with his family in the 1850 census. By the 1860 census they had moved to Dayton Twp IA. The 1870 census he was still in Dayton Twp. Iowa, IA and of course in Swan Lake, Pocahontas, IA in 1880. I donít have later censuses.
A Civil War Vet he had enlisted on 7 Sept 1861, Reenlisted on 30 March 1864 and mustered out on 15 Aug. 1865 in Little Rock, AR. This was found on Ancestry.com. I do know he was in the 10th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Company F from a list of returning soldiers sent to me from the Iowa Gen. Society.
Daniel married Caroline Layport on 5 Apr 1866 in Dayton Township, Iowa Co., IA. (After he returned from the war.)
From the 1880 Census in Swan Lake, Pocahontas, IA, FHL 1254359, NA Film T9-0359, Pg 174C I have the following:
Caroline (I found out later Caroline's maiden name was Laport) was born about 1867 in Iowa, her father and mother were both born in OH.
The children were 1) Josephus Pew b. abt. 1867, 2) Norman Bruce b. abt. 1870, 3) Eva b. abt. 1873, 4) Homer b. abt. 1876 and 5) Lula b. abt. 1879. All the children were born in Iowa.
The second marriage was found just this week on a posting so I havenít been able to confirm nor has anyone written me back. You can use it as a clue at this point and not gospel.
Daniel married Louisa S. Kinnaman in Jan 1842 in Guernsey Co OH. (Did Daniel return to Ohio after the death of his first wife or is this actually 2 different Daniels???) Louisa b. may 1858 , d. 12 Apr 1907 in Dickey Co., ND.
Daniel and Louisaís children were: 1) Julia Elvira b. 1892, Pocahontas IA 2) Ruth Alice b. 1896 in Pocahontas IA and Charlotte Mae b. 6 Nov 1897 in Laurens, Pocahontas IA, d. 29 Oct 1973 in Dane Co, WI, Bur Wayside Cem. Fredrick.
The post that I found reports that Daniel died on 14 Feb 1914 in Milwaukee Co, WI and is buried in Wood Veterans Cem.
The Iowa Gen Society has been more than helpful in putting this together. There is more information about the Laports and Josephus Pew Ė Danielís father. Also, I would be happy to send you copies of any of the proofs that I have.
