I am looking for information about Pennsylvania Pfeils / Mehans.
My Grandfather, John Pfeil (not sure of the middle name and he died in the 1980's)was married to Phyllis Pfeil (my Grandmother - still living - maiden name of Holcomb). They had children by the names of Phillip (my father), Lanny, Joel, and Lanna.
My Grandfather's mother was a Pfeil but married a Mehan. When she died, her husband (my Grandfather's father) became abusive. My Grandfather was subsequently abducted from Pittsburg by his mother's parents (the Pfeils) when he was about 10 years old. He was taken to Port Alleghany where he was adopted by his mother's parents, the Pfeils.
The result was that my Grandfather's aunts and uncles technically became his brothers and sisters and his name was changed from Mehan to Pfeil. My Grandfather also had an older brother by the name of Edwin Mehan or Pfeil.
Does anyone know anything about this? More for curiosity than anything. Thanks -
