This Pfeil group is probably that of Johann Heinrich Pfeil, born 14 Aug 1757 Alertshausen, Kr. Siegen-Wittgenstein (today in Westfalen) and his wife, Maria Gertraudt Althaus, b. 19 Feb 1761 Elsoff, Kr. Siegen-Wittgenstein. They came with the following children: Johannes, Jost Heinrich, Johann Jost, Elisabeth Gertraudt, Catharina, Maria Elisabetha, and Anna Margaretha. This family first appears in Little York, York Co., PA, later in the area of Milton, Northumberland Co., New Berlin, Union Co., PA, and, finally, by 1804, in Green Twp., Columbiana Co. [now Mahoning Co.], Ohio. They were affiliated with the Zion Lutheran & Reformed Church, Canfield, Ohio. The others in the group are possibly relatives. The records of the parish of Elsoff have been microfilmed and are available through the Family History Library, Salt Lake City. You'll find the surname spelled in the American records as Pfeil, Peil, Pile, Pyle, File, etc. according to how the pronunciation sounded to the clerks. Always check the signature on the wills, etc. for the correct spelling.
