As to my connections to the Sinclairs, Anne Jane Phair married John Robert Spencer, son of John Hodges Spencer that married Anne Sinclair, my 3rd great-grandmother and daughter to William Sinclair & Nahovway (my 4th greats). William, b. 1766, East On Quay, Harray, Orkneys, Scotland, d. 20 Apr 1818, York Factory, MB, Canada.
William Sinclair of Orkney, a descendant of the first William Sinclair of Roslin and of Henry Sinclair, Earl of Orkney, was born in 1766 in Harray Parish, Orkney Islands, a chain of islands which has played a major role in the Sinclair family since the 13th century. He came to Rupert's Land, Canada with the Hudson's Bay Company in 1792.
William Sinclair from East-on-Quay in Harray on the Mainland of Orkney joined the Hudson's Bay Company in 1792, and was shipped to York Factory on the north coast of North America.
Soon after establishing his first outpost at Nestoowyan, William married a local girl, Nahovway - whose Cree name is now written Nahoway. They had a large family, and their descendants have spread round the world.
William Sinclair worked for the Hudson's Bay Company the rest of his life, rising to chief factor. Most of Nahoway and William's daughters married company men.

That is my connection to the Sinclairs and am happy to be part of their history!
