Hello Hugh,
Alice Phare of the Golden Inn at Highampton was the widow of Thomas Phare. They both came from Bratton Clovelly and were married there in 1798.Her maiden name was Garland. Their son Henry, born 1810 in Highampton after they had taken on the Golden Inn, was my g.g.g.grandfather.The family can be traced quite a long way back but I can only do the direct male line. What is your connection?
