Robert Phaup - Jedburgh, Roxburgh, Scotland, 1800s
Seeking info on/connections to Robert Phaup.Have collected info from Scots Origins and LDS site and this is what I understand to be true, with all events taking place in Scotland, most in Jedburgh, Roxburgh area unless otherwise noted:
Robert Phaup b. 1816, d. 1886 and was a shoemaker.In 1836 hem. Euphemia Brown, b. 1821, d. 1896.Their children were:
1) William Phaup b. 25 Sep 1838, m. Sarah Ann Green (b. 1842) in 1864. By 1881 he is listed as a boot/shoemaker living on Crown Lane.They had 6 daughters: Margaret Baptist Phaup b. 25 May 1865 d. 1887, Euphemia Phaup b. 27 Dec 1868, Mary (H)elen Baptist Phaup 5 Feb 1872, Lilias Brown Phaup 28 Mar 1874, Sarah Ann Green Phaup b. 1876, and Agnes Brown Phaup b. 1879 d. 1888.
2) James Brown Phaup b. 15 Jun 1840
3) Thomas Phaup b. 10 Jan 1843
4) Robert Phaup b. 25 Apr 1845
5) Archibald Phaup b. 19 Jan 1847 m. Janet Grieve in Ancrum, 1873 and by 1891 they were living in Hobkirk with 9 children in their household
6) Lillias Kirkwood Phaup b. 19 Feb 1849
7) Hugh Brown Phaup b. 17 Jun 1851 m. Elizabeth Wayness in Ancrum, 1873.By 1881 Hugh is a warehouseman, and lives at 15 Haliburton Place in Ladhope with Eliz.'s father, George and 3 children: Euphemia b. 1875, Maria/Marion b. 1878, and newborn Robert Albert. By 1891, Robert has died (1883), "Lizzie" has been born (1886) and Hugh is not in the picture (but I found no death record for him, or records for any other Hugh Phaup).Hugh has gone to Massachusetts, married someone else and has another child -- Minnie Phaup b. 1890, my husband's great-grandmother. Hugh dies in 1930 in Lowell, MA.
8) Margaret Preston Phaup b.29 Dec 1853
9) Alexander Phaup b. 30 Mar 1856 m. Jessie Dickie in 1880 in Abernethy Perth. They have Jessie Wylie Phaup in 1880, Euphemia Brown Phaup in 1882.He dies in 1897, and Jessie dies in 1910.
10) John Phaup b. 17 May 1858
11) Agnes Brown Phaup b. 10 Apr 1860
12) Euphemia Brown Phaup b. 18 Feb 1863
13) Albert Brown Phaup b. 31 Jan 1865 d. 1868
SIDE NOTE: In 1881, Robert Phaup, 65-year-old bootmaker from Scotland was also found in London, England with a younger wife, Martha (37), a 10-year-old daughter Lillias, and 2 sons, William G. (7) and Horace O. (1).Coincidence?!? There sure are a lot of things in common.
During this time period there were a couple other Phaups in the area that could have been Robert's brothers (no proof, but reasonable speculation). One was a Thomas Phaup that married Ann Douglas in 1853.Thomas and Ann had: Thomas b. 18 Jun 1853 (who I believe m. Mary Ann ? and has a daughter Margaret), John b. 12 Jul 1855, and James b. 13 Aug 1858.In 1891, Thomas Phaup age 72 and his son James (32) are living with William and Sarah Phaup, Robert's son and daughter-in-law.Also in the house is Jessie Phaup, Alexander's wife and 4 of William's daughters (other two are found elsewhere unmarried). Here's my reasoning: Thomas Sr. and Robert Sr. would have been close in age and why else would Thomas (and son) stay with William unless he were family?
The other was William Phaup that married Agnes Webb on 25 Jul 1851.They had Agnes (19 May 1852), Mary (10 Feb 1855), and Elisabeth (b. 1857, d. 1858).He was marrying about the same time as Robert.
This information was resarched on the Scots Origins web-site using transciptions of both Old Parish Records, Statutory Indexes, and Census documents; and, from parish transcription records from the LDS web-site.Again...I have nothing on who Robert Phaup (sr)'s family was and any info would be appreciated.Hope all this info finds a connection! Thanks in advance!
