Greetings fellow Philhower's! I am new to this geneology business but after spending the weekend with my father have a burning desire to trace my lineage and seek membership in the DAR.

This past weekend we went through a large box of goodies, including the programme from the 1932 Bi-Centennial reunion of the Philhower family. Terrific document!!!!! There are also several funeral books and a multitude of pictures.

I am the oldest daughter of Peter Philip Philhower (b. 1937)and Margaret Catherine Loui (b. 1937). My father is the oldest son of Peter J. Philhower Jr. and has one one brother, Michael. My maternal grandmother was born in 1913, Mildred Butte. My great grandfather was Peter J. Philhower of Buda IL who died August 30, 1944 in Buda, Illinois.

I have one brother Jeff, and four sisters: Andrea, Audra, Margaret and Michele.

My father is in possession of pictures of many of the family, including the elusive Nicholas as well as the family homestead in Buda and others. There are a number of photographs of the Philhower men.

I am very interested in the Horton line of the family also.

If someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction to start the process I would be most appreciative. Also - are there any books, cd's etc. which detail the family history?

My branch of the family is reported to descend from Jurg who arrived in 1748 via Philadelphia from Germany. This is interesting because the Bi-Centennial programme details the family's arrival in 1732 from Holland. (There is much reference to the year being that is when George Washington was born!)

Anyway - I would love to correspond with others who are seeking similar info and would be happy to scan photos or other memoribilia for those who are interested.

Thank you in advance -- I look forward to "meeting" the rest of my family!

Cheers,
Jodie (Joanne) Elaine Philhower-Hirner
