ODET PHILIPPE - FLORIDA PIONEER (1787-1869)
Posted by: Greg C. White (ID *****3621) Date: June 18, 2002 at 18:39:01

Odet Philippe, of Lyons, France, later removed to America, where he was known to have resided at Charleston, SC, Key West, FL & Tampa, FL. He is credited with starting the citrus and cigar rolling industries in Florida.

Odet reportedly had four daughters, including one Elizabeth Octavia Philippe. Octavia reportedly married George P. Washington in 1833 in Key West, and later married Charles Papy.

Does anyone have any information on this Charles Papy, who he was, when they married, etc. ? Octavia & Charles had at least one child - John Charles Papy.

Any information would be appreciated.
