Re: Philippi, John Frederick Maine and NY

Dear Ms. Balsavage, My maternal great-grandmother's maiden name was Philippi. She had eight brothers - any of whom might be the father of John Frederick Philippi. Her father's name was Frederick Philippi (other spellings I have found - Phillippi, Phillippy). The brothers names were: George, Frederick, Charles, Henry, John, Louis, William, and Adam. They were born between 1842 through 1865. Either Charles or Henry were the first to be born in New York, probably in the Buffalo or Eden area. Frederick, the father, also had two brothers. One was named William who had a son named Sam who was a ship captain on the Great Lakes. So Sam might also be a possibility. Hope this is helpful!
