Hi Frank,
How cool that you too, are a descendent of the Shearer's and Phillippi's. You are right, spelling of the name does make it harder.
I seem to have quite a bit of information on all of the Shearers, and put that together with stories from my mom on the ancestors.
Julliana and Johan, (or John, depending on the source) are my GGGG grandparents. How do you tie in?
I found a lot of my information in a book, written by Morton Montgomery of Reading, Pa. In fact, most of that book is on the internet, I believe in the Reading, Pa. hisorical society web site. I will check on that to make sure.
I can send you the information I have, it is quite interesting. I knew about the Revolutionary War, and there is a story about him concerning the war.
Here is an exerpt on him from the book......

Christopher Shearer, the founder of the Shearer family in America, when seventeen years old came from Germany to Reading, Pa., when that city was but a small town. He was a justice of the peace, and had his office at what is now the corner of Eighth and Penn streets. His wife was a member of the Phillipi family. These two spent the remainder of their lives in Reading, dying there. Their children were: John P., Jonathan P., Benjamin P., and Solomon P., all but John dying at Reading.

Funny thing is, I did not know the ship he arrived on, thanks so very much.
I will be happy to share whatever info I have on the family, let me know.
Let me know also, if you are interested in the whole Shearer line, as they were quite a colorful bunch living in Reading, and I have quite a bit on the whole family.
Thanks, and let me know what you need...........Lee
