Inaccurate Information by Richard Ripley
VIRGINIA PHILLIPS-SMITH 2/13/05
To all concerned:
You can look back at message 13203 for another round of outrage regarding Richard Ripley. In addition, in message 10078, he proceeds to tell people that my ancestor Theophilus Phillips was the Clerk of Rowley, MA fro 1676 to 1689, when in fact he was clerk of Newtown, Queens Co., NY in those years. The town records of Newtown still exist, and Theo was kind enough to write the birthdates of his children in them.Several months ago, while looking for info on Theo, on World Connect, I found an unsuspecting gentleman's site that had been copied from Ripley. In it he took my entire NJ family and attached it to a false ancestor in Massachusetts. I upbraided the poster for being willing to copy from someone else's research, which contained no citations. And that's the bottom line. The truth of our ancestry comes from primary sources that have to be located and read with a great deal of work. The internet has megatons of hay for every needle.
