Hi, again, Valerie,
My Phillips lived in the northern part of Amherst County on or near the Rockfish River. This is the part of Amherst County that became Nelson County in 1807.Before moving to Albemarle/Amherst County, my Phillips lived in Orange/Spotsylvania Counties, VA.The name Archaelous does not run in my Phillips family and the name Richard was not used much, either. My Zachariah was a Phillips but his wife Frances was a White. We believe the father of my Zachariah was Leonard Phillips who was married to Johanna Davis.
I agree that your Isabella was probably somehow related to Richard Phillips of Amherst/Nelson Counties.I went back through my files and noticed that I had developed a theory (emphasis on theory) that Richard Phillips of Amherst/Nelson Counties might be descended from Richard Phillips and Katherine Smith of Louisa Co VA.Richard and Katherine had the following children:
1) William b. 8/3/1728, d ca 1783, m. Frances Gregory 3/10/1756 Louisa Co, VA.Children: Richard b. 1/12/1757-58, Elizabeth b. 2/17/1758-59, Anna W. b. 9/7/1761, Agnes West b. 5/5/1765, William Ballard b. 4/29/1768, Catherine Smith b.9/15/1770, Susanna b. 4/9/1773 and Lucy b 7/29/1776.Lucy married Francis Anderson 4/12/1802.
2) Ann/Anna, b. 2/5/1729-30, d bef 1787 in Louisa Co VA, m. William White 8/3/1752 Louisa Co, VA.Probable children: John, Richard P, William, Barrett, Elisha, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna. Catherine Callis, 65, gave a deposition March 10, 1849 in Trimble County, KY in which she stated that Capt. William White, killed in the battle at Brandywine, and her mother were cousins. The Capt William White who was killed at Brandywine must have been the son of William and Ann Phillips White if he was the cousin of Catherine Bibb. Catherine Callis (nee Smith) was the daughter of Catherine Bibb and Wm Smith; Catherine Bibb was the daughter of Thomas Bibb and Elizabeth Phillips. Thus Anna, wife of William White Sr. would have been the sister of Elizabeth Phillips. Anna White and Elizabeth Bibb were the daughters of Richard Phillips and Katherine Smith. Note that William and Anna had a son Richard P. White, likely named for Anna's father.
3) Richard b. 4/14/1732, d. 1791, Louisa Co, VA, m. 1st Ann Johnson, m. 2nd Elizabeth Waddy.Probable children of Richard Phillips and Ann Johnson: Catherine S, Anne A, Elizabeth N, Thomas and Richard.Child of Richard Phillips and Elizabeth Waddy: William Ballard Phillips
4) Elizabeth b. 6/20/1737, d. 11/18/1813, Louisa Co, VA, m. Thomas Bibb ca 1758.Probable children: Katie and Nancy Ann.
5) Susanna b. 3/25/1742, d. unknown, m. unknown
6) Thomas b. 9/10/1744, d. without issue in 1779, Louisa Co, VA
Notice that their daughter Ann/Anna married William White and their daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Bibb.Elizabeth Bibb Alford was the daughter of William and Sarah Bibb and the wife of John Alford. This is the couple from whom Richard Phillips purchased the land on the north branch of the Tye River in 1806.
As I said before, I don’t know how or if Richard Phillips of Amherst/Nelson Counties was related to my branch of Phillips.I am the Assistant Administrator of the Phillips Worldwide DNA Project, and I would LOVE to find a documented male Phillips descendant of Richard Phillips and Katherine Smith of Louisa County, VA for DNA testing. In fact, I would be willing to pay for his DNA test.I suspect but never have been able to prove that my Phillips family of Orange/Spotsylvania Counties VA was somehow related to Richard and Katherine Smith Phillips of Louisa County, VA.
Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser
