I am searching for my paternal great-grandmother's family. I know her name was Mabel Phillips, born 1876 in New York. Her father was a sea merchant who shipped from New York to Savannah,Ga. and back. Our family story is that she was the only child of a widower. At a young age(between 4-7)she was brought to Savannah, by her father, and left in a orphanage there. Somehow, she ended up in The Methodist Children's Home in Macon, Georgia where she was removed from the children's home by a physican from Wilkinson Co. Georgia to help care for his ailing wife. She met my great-grandfather, Lam Lavender, married and had 3 children. Does anyone have any information, at all, on her N.Y. family? any help would be greatly appreciated.
