Does 1870 show single, divorced? If a widow or married at that time her status should be listed. Youngest child Emma was born about 1867. Did Lucy's husband eventually die of civil war wounds?

What does (Lou Philip) mean?

If she was married to a man named Phillips in the ten years between census you could search death records for a male Phillips death in the state and maybe get a clue.

There is a Thomas J. Phillips with a wife named Lucy and a daughter named Emma Shelby Phillips. (Could Shelby sound like Saldi?) Thomas died in MS, 1874. This posting was made in 2005 but you might still contact the researcher for more info:
