Thank you for your follow up advice - Lou would be slang for Lucy - this is how it appeared in the census - as for the 1870 census it dosent list the information you mention - S-D-M.

Lucy was living in the house hold of the Saldi or Salds with her two daughters. I need to check out every Phillips in this area that married a Lucy. I found an Emma Phillips that married a Quinn in 1880 at Lauderdale.
