Georgie Phillips, Teamster Local 560
I am seeking information about the family of George "Georgie" Phillips.
He was born in Hudson County NJ to James R. and Mary Phillips and lived on Pleasant Ave in Weehawken until at least 1940.He had two siblings:James R. and Eleanor.
George might have been in the military, and might have been part of the Fighting 69th of NYC, as other family members also served with this unit.He might have joined it during HS or right after it.
Georgie was a Teamster with local 560 in NJ.In the 1950s/60s, he ran a very eventful campaign for the presidency of his local which made national headlines due to its newsworthy opponent and the violence which took place during the campaign/s.Georgie was attacked with hammers and beaten up, and his campaign headquarters were bombed. He survived this.
Georgie was part of a lawsuit against the Teamsters.
He may have moved to FLA and it is said he divorced a couple of times.
He may have possibly moved to PA after living in FLA.
If you have any information about his whereabouts, whether he is alive, and about his descendants, or if you are one of his children or grandchildren, I would love to hear from you.
I'm a cousin through common ancestors George E. and Bridget Phillips ( nee Kilduff).
Many thanks,
Heidi
