I have checked my files. This Thomas Philpot, b. 5 Aug 1760 Buncomb NC, m. 15 June 1792 Nancy Bates, had daughter Susan Philpot b. 1797 Buncomb NC. She married in Clay County KY 11 Nov 1811 Abraham Gum (Gun per KY marriage index). This information was given to me by another researcher. The source cited is Family Treemaker disks KY 1728-1850. I checked my Philpot database, and I do not have any mention of the name Smallwood. However, there are many descendants of Thomas Philpot, and it is likely that your Susan is related to him - could even be a second marriage for this daughter. Sorry I couldn't help you.
