Emery, Great find!

I first started in genealogy in 1962. Soon after that I was told that Fielding Fipps was from Grayson, Virginia. There was no proof, just a statement.

Through the years I could not find anything, absolutely nothing to even suggest that Grayson County connection. I have a genealogist friend at the state archives that used to tell me "when doing census, take 10 pages before and after your entry, as these people moved together with friends and family.

As I was not only studing the Fipps family I was doing a lot of work on my Fleshman line, also in Monroe County, West Virginia.

When I backtracked them I found they came from Culpepper County, Virginia. That is when I discovered the marriage between John Fipps Jr. and Mary Fleshman.

From looking at census and marriage records in Monroe County, West Virginia it appeared resonable to me that this couple were the parents of Fielding, Thomas, Abner, John and William Fipps.

So I put it on my charts.

And as people are want to do they copy and paste everything they can find. No sources, no extra research. It was interesting to watch through the years as most got on board and used John Fipps & Mary Fleshman as the parents.

So, you are to be congratulated wholeheartedly for finding the first shread of evidence to prove this relationship.

Thank you,

Stan Courtney (originally from Oregon).
