I, too, have a John F. Phy in my family tree. He was born about 1802 and died in 1879 in Putnam county, TN. (I think he was born, however, in N.C.)
The information on this John F. Phy is that his first wife was Mary "Polly" Bradford (b. about 1813 - d. about 1859) and his second wife was Margaret Holeman Ramsey. It was her second marriage too - she was first married to Austin Ramsey.
John and Mary Bradford had 4 children: Daniel V. Phy, Margaret "Peggy" Phy, Josiah Phy and Mary "Polly" Phy.
John and Margaret had 5 children: Alta Elizabeth (my great-grandmother), Amanda E., Saraphronia, James V. and Malinda.
I have John's father's name as Phillip and his mother's first name as Anne -- and nothing more.
Are these also your ancestors? Have you found a source for more information on the Phy family from Putnam County, TN? If so, I'd sure appreciate the lead!!
thanks, and good luck.
Lesley Ivy
