Phy Family Genealogy Forum
Hello. I don't know if this is a match or not. I am also researching PHY. My grandfather was Charles Frederick Phy, son of Charles Frederick Phy and Martha Gotwols of Philadelphia. My grandfather was known as Charlie as a young man. His father worked for Baldwin Locomotive in Philadelphia, and died from a diabetic seizure in 1913 while delivering an engine to Texas. Charles (grandpa) evidently didn't live at home. I have him listed in one census as living with a M.Gleeson and his wife, M. Gleeson, and their infant son C. Gleeson. I know that he joined the Army in Pennsylvania in 1917 and was gassed in 1918. He married in Philly and died there in 1946. Traveling Charlie could well be the person you have listed. He could have gone to stay with relatives or friends in Ok. The first PHY I have found from this branch of the family was PAUL PHY who came to the US in 1808. He married a Mary, and their children were Margaret - 1812, Juliann - 1814, George - 1816, John - 1819, Elizabeth - 1823, Rebecca - 1826, Charles - 1828, and Jesse George (my great-great grandfather)1831. Does this match anything that you have? This part of the family landed in Philly, and always lived there. They aren't part of the NC or TN branch. I will be anxious to hear from you. Ingrid
