Ron, My name is also Fisher. My grand-father changed the name in 1900 from Pichette. He was born in Manchester New Hampshire. his parents were Perrie Pichette and Clemance (Pare) Pichette. I don not know why he did this. My father was the youngest of 12 and has no idea. I do know that Perrie's parents came from the Isle of Orleans in Quebec about 1847.
You can find the story of Jean Pichet on the web. I do not have the site address any longer but look for Jean Pichet, he came to New France in 1650.
I the could have just been anglesied, Pichet/Pichette meaning "fish" in French
