Pio Pico was one of the 32 original families that started San Diego in 1769 traveling with Gaspar Portola and Father Junipero Serra
If you're tracing to the PIO Pico family, you can find a lot of info on the earlier years by attending a workshop (FREE) in Old Town San Diego. The next workshop date is Nov. 8, 2003. I will try to post the next dates for 2004 as soon as I get them.
Workshops are about every 3 months, and every June (end of the month) there is the Descendants Day celebration.
This might help you follow up or continue your search. E-mail me if you have any questions about finding info about Old Town Festivites at BbTrumpet8va@cs.com

Good Luck, Randy Osuna (Picos married into the Osuna faimly)
