Greetings Tanya:

I was pleased to read the message regarding your Pico

family tree.

As for Santiago de la Cruz Pico, he was born in 1732 at

San Javier de Cabazan, Sinaloa. He along with his wife

Maria Jacinta Labastida and five children (among them the

father of Governor Pio Pico and your ancestor, Jose Miguel

Pico) traveled from Sinaloa to Alta California with the

famous Anza Expedition during 1775-1776.

It has also been asserted by many scholars that the Mexican

Picos descend from the Italian Pico della Mirandolas, whose

family castle is still standing.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks Tanya!

Peter Almada
