I am from the "southern branch" of German-Americans that settled Texas shortly prior the U.S. Civil war. My understanding is that they were primarily carpenters and woodworkers from Bremen. I have traveled through the Midwest frequently, and wondered at the many Pieper's that settled there. William, Henry and John were quite commom names among the early Texas Pieper's. I follow your remarks with interest.
