I just read your posting, which I realize was a year ago
in March. However, I am very interested in reading
the infor from the gopher site you posted, and I could
not access it. Do you know if there is a new url?
I descend from the Pâté family in Canada, specifically
a Jean Pâté who was in the French Marine in 1700-1740.
I have been researching the family for over 25 years,
trying to find our roots. Did find a town in France
called Patay, which was founded (so the town's historians
wrote) by Gilles de Patay who is related to the Bishop
of Chartres around 1342 (I don't have this at my fingertips
right now, but do have the book.) Can't find the Bishop
listed in the Catholic Church archives, though records
could have been burned. We went to Chartres, Patay, which
is very close to Orleans.
Jean Pâté married Claire Langlois, daughter of Acadians
they had one child, Jean Marie Pâté who married Louise
Isobelle Samson, and I have records written by Bernard
Pâté which he completed in 1897, from before the 1700's
on the various related families. Now, I am trying to
fill in our missing generations, but also want to find
The only Pâté I can find in Canadian Biographies is
Jean du Mesnil de Norrey de Pâté. The name ends up being
le Picard--just got some new research info on this and
hope to find the family genealogy.
Anyway, thank you for your information
