Hello Julie

I have learned a great deal more about your Piette connections since I responded a couple of days ago to your 11/15/2009 post on regarding your Piette ancestors.

Your great-grandfather was Fred Piette, listed on his WWI draft card as born December 15, 1887 in Illinois (probably Chicago). He was married to Lottie (I haven't found her last name), born in Illinois, both parents born in Poland. I believe his father was Joseph Piette. (more information below).

Roseanna's brother Fred was, as you said, killed in action during World War II. According to's "World War II and Korean Conflict Veterans Interred Overseas", Frederick S Piette was a member of the U.S. Marines; Inducted From:       Illinois
Rank:       Private First Class. He died on 2 Aug 1944 and is buried in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal as well as additional Navy-Marine Corps Awards.

The 1920 Census for Chicago, Cook County, IL lists, living on Lafayette Avenue"
Piette, Joseph; Owns Home. Age 61. Naturalized citizen, born in Canada, both parents born in Canada. Occupation: Brickmaker.
Wife: Mary Piette, age 48, Naturalized citizen, born in Canada, both parents born in
Son: Fred Piette, age 31, single, born in Illinois....occupation: machinist.

The 1910 Census for Chicago, Cook County, IL lists
Piette, Joseph S; age 50; Second marriage. 15 years in current marriage. Born in Canada.
Immigrated 1889 (? -- unclear). Occupation: Brickmaker.
Wife: Margaretta Piette, age 39, married once, 15 years current marriage; Zero children.
Born in Canada, parents both born in Scotland.
Son: (of Joseph) Frederick Piette, age 22, single, born in Illinois.... Laborer in brickyard.

The 1900 Census for Chicago, Ward 34, Cook County, IL lists, living on Kensington Avenue:
Piette, Joseph. born Aug 1859, age 60. Has been married 6 years. Born in Canada. Occupation: Brickmaker. Immigrated 1886.
Wife: Mary Piette, born April 1872 in Canada. Parents born in Scotland. Zero children
Son: Teophus, born Jan 1885, age 15, single, born in Canada
Son: Fred, born Dec 1886, age 13, single, born in Illinois.

I derive from the above information that Margarette and Mary Piette are both the same person. Joseph Piette married Maggie Leithead on 13 May 1894 in Chicago, IL. Joseph Piette's sons Theophas (sp?) and Fred were evidently from a previous marriage.

Fred Piette, Sr. was born 12/15/1887 in Illinois. Died Jan 13, 1931 in Chicago, IL File No. 6001176
Rose Piette was born 4/25/1924 in Chicago, IL. File No. 6060717. Married Ronald A. Tanis on 2/11/1942. File No. 1720170
Fred Piette, Jr. was born 4/20/1925 in Chicago, IL. File No. 6050004. Died 2 Aug 1944
I have not been able to determine with certainty the name of Joseph Piette's first wife, presumably the mother of "Teophus" b. abt. 1885-1886, in Canada and Fred, born Dec 1886 or 1887, in Chicago. (unless, by some chance, they were adopted ??? Doubtful.)

If you are able to obtain a copy of the death certificate for Fred Piette Sr, d 1/13/1931 from Cook County Genealogy
and can let me know Fred[erick]Piette's place of birth and parents' names, if available, I will be happy to see if I can trace the rest of your Piette line from there.
