Hello Glenda,
My husband Donald's great grandfather, John, was killed at Gettysburg, not Atlanta but I think it is still the same family. They descend from three brothers who came from Germany and had their name changed, either voluntarily or by immigration, from Pfeiffer to Pifer when they arrived. We live in California now and there is a man in Feather River who is quite knowledgable about Pifer Geneology. In fact, there is a Pifer family reunion slated for next month, I believe. If I am able to obtain his address, I will relay it to you.
Lin Pifer
