Only one Jacob Pifer came up on a 1860 index search. That led me to Philadelphia 19th ward. pg 371
Jacob Pifer, 25, baker,300 personal estate value, Baden (place of birth)
Catharine (no last name, no indication if wife, I'm assuming so.) 23, " mark under place of birth, indicating Baden. The column that says If married that year was blank, so if Catharine is Jacob's wife, they were married earlier than 1860. But if this was the same couple that is in Darke county, Ohio in 1870, a 2 year old son should be listed with them. I thought I had hit paydirt, when I saw the name John after Catharine.
But it was for a John Sch---- (I can't tell it looks like Schi, s or m, ending with ar or se. But it is not a name that I could easily guess), age 28 male, also with " mark under place of birth, indicating Baden. Could it be Catharine's brother?
