What I know for certain is that my g-grand father was John Pifer b 18 Sept 1849 in Preston Co. WV and came to Michigan in 1856 (age 7). John's father was Emanual Pifer, mother was Lydia Hood. Emanual may have been born in 1799. The 1830 VA census records for Preston Co. on p 021 #199 show both Emanual Sr. and Jr. The 1850 census also shows Emanual. But I have not seen the records to know if this is the right ancestor. In time I hope to check this. Thank you for your information. Norma Reid
