Page 338 of Dr. Russell Clarke Pigford's research in the section of Lost Billie's son Solomon Pigford's descendants, it states:

Owen Lucien Pigford's Civil War record, a photostatic copy of which was obtained from the General Services Administration shows that he enlisted 13 May 1861 at Corinth, Miss., was discharged Mar 27, 1865 near Richmond VA and was paroled at Meridian Miss 11 May 1865.According to his record he was born in Miss occupation farmer residence Lauderdale Miss age when enlisted 21 and married. One statement of his commanding officer reads "Joined the Company at Fredericksburg Va 24 Apr 1863. A good soldier in all respects." He was severely wounded and captured at Gettysburg July 1-3 1863. He was admitted to the general hospital at Howard's Grove Richmond Va 29 Sep 1863 with a diagnosis of VUL (sic) contusions middle third right leg. He fought at Chickamauga Tenn 27 Sept 1863 and was captured at Chattanooga Tenn Sep 1863. He was wounded at Plank Road May 1864 and at Fisher's Hill or Cedar Creek 19 Oct 1864. After the war he moved to Texas. It is said that he suffered throughout his life as a result of his war wounds."
