I am very much interested in your post as I am a descendant of the Elijah Piles that you referenced in your post. Unfortunately, I do not know of the connection to your ancestor. If you can give me the names of the parents of your ancestor, perhaps we can see if there is a connection. Perhaps your ancestor was an attorney and not related. For reference purposes, I am attaching a post I made to the Preston Co., WV GenForum today.
Preston Co., WV GenForum post:
Nancy Miller, my great-great-grandmother, was b. 1828-34 WV based on 1850-1880 Preston Co., WV census records. She m. Elijah Piles/Pyles and had children:
Christopher Columbus Piles b. 1/10/1850 VA
Lucinda Ann Piles b. 5/11/1852 Preston Co., VA (my great-grandmother who m. David H. Fortney)
Nathan J. Piles b. 4/20/1854 Preston Glades, Preston Co., VA
Elizan A. Piles b. 7/16/1856 Preston Glades, Preston Co., VA
John Wilkens Fletcher Piles b. 1/22/1858 Cains Creek, Preston Co., VA
Newton J. Piles b. ca. 1860/61
Elijah Piles d. 1860 and Nancy (Miller) Piles has not been located after the 1880 census.
I am trying to obtain information the parents of Nancy (Miller) Piles. In the 1880 census, Nancy reported that her father and mother were b. in WV. My grandmother wrote that Nancy (Miller) Piles parents were Nathan Miller and Shackleford. Monongalia Co., WV Marriage Bond 2:727 reflects a marriage bond dated 5/5/1827 for Nathan Miller and Lucinda Shackelford, daughter of John Shackelford. No marriage record has been located.
If anyone has further information on the parents of Nancy (Miller) Piles, I would enjoy sharing.
