Saw this small thread and thought I'd offer that one place to check out might be the Hardin Co., KY area. My relatives seem to have come from / passed through there. It's been hard to trace except by some luck. But, there is a cemetary in the area full of Pilkentons dating well back in the 1800's.

If you have access, could make some phone calls to county record keepers, check with Genealogy services (such as Salt Lake/Mormons) that have records that can be searched to see if your names have any hits with their records for this area.

Just an idea and hope it might help.
