Looking for the following ancestors of Thomas Lowry, born 1760-1780, unknown where (possibly Ireland, Maryland or NC) and his wife Frances "Fanny" Forestt, born 1781, NC. Most if not all of their children we know of so far were born in North Carolina between 1800-1820. Three of the Lowry children of Thomas and Frances "Fanny" Forestt Lowry married PILKINTONS in Guilford County, NC, and I'd like to talk to any of you who are descended from these Lowry/Pilkinton marriages.

The widow Frances Fanny Lowrey is seen on the 1820 Guilford County, NC census (Fanny would remarry Joel Fagg in Maury County, TN and after he dies in 1843, she moved to Madison County, IL to live with her Lowry sons and families). These Lowry family members migrated from Guilford County, NC to Maury County, TN in the 1820s timeframe, then to Shawneetown, Gallatin County, IL (some before 1830, some after 1840) and on to various counties in southern Illinois and Missouri after 1850. Some of the Missouri faction of Lowrys would move to Spokane, WA prior to 1900.

Children of Thomas Lowry and Frances "Fanny Forestt are:

Elizabeth (Betsey) LOWRY, born in 1800, NC; married Jesse W. PILKINTON, on 11 Oct 1820, Guilford County, NC; moved to Maury County TN in the 1820s and later to Gallatin County, IL.

Thomas LOWRY, born in 1804, North Carolina; married Catherine PILKINTON, on 26 Dec 1820,Guilford County, NC; they are on the 1830-1840 census Gallatin County, IL, died on 10 Nov 1850, Alhambra, Madison County, IL.

Sina LOWRY, born between 1810 and 1820, North Carolina; married David LOVING, on 25 Apr
1832, Maury County, Tennessee; died after 1840, probably Arkansas where this couple moved in the 1830s.

Betty (Biddy) LOWRY, born in 1811, North Carolina; married Elias M. SMITH, on 21 May 1829,Gallatin County, Illinois; died in 1860, Pin Oak Township, Madison County, IL.

John LOWRY, born about 1817, North Carolina; married Rachel G. CARPENTER, on 9 Feb 1833, Maury County,Tennessee; moved to Shawneetown, Gallatin County, IL (seen on 1850 IL census) died after 1852, unknown, probably Gallatin County, IL.

William Jackson LOWRY, born on 26 Apr 1818, North Carolina or Crab Orchard, Cumberland County, Tennessee; married Sarah PILKINTON, on 19 Sep 1837, Maury County, Tennessee; died on 21 Nov 1861, Alhambra, Madison County, Illinois.

Through DNA, we have discovered that our earliest Thomas Lowry, born 1760-1780, is either a brother to, or nephew to John "Crip" Lowry, born 1756, Scotland, who served in the 7th Maryland Regiment in the Revolutionary War, where he lost a leg at the Battle of Camden. We are in the "teal" group of Lowrys in the Lowery DNA project database.

If you are related to any of the folks above, we'd love to swap tree leaves with you! Note: The Lowrys can be found under various spellings of the name, including Lowery, Lowry and Lowrey but most of ours wound up as Lowrys.
