James,

Thanks once again for your responses. The LDS Church web site of family search org has recently added the 1880 Fed Censuses to its website, and there are many ways to search that census. It may even use soundex for variations of spelling. I ordered the 1880 TN Soundex for Pilkin(g)ton, but it uses P-lkn for lkn # code, and a couple of our Maury Co, TN families are not listed in it. That's because two of the heads of household, J C & J M, are listed in 1880 FC of MUTN as Pingleton. Since P-ngl has a completely diff soundex code, they cannot be found in any soundex system under Pilkin(g)ton.

I will be posting another post to Adkins fam gen forum, soon, I hope,

more later,
Richard.
