Pam, 3 of my children are descended from those Pillow's in that area of Tenn. thru their paternal gr.mother, she was born and raised in that area. She's lived in Memphis for many yrs. and is in her mid 80s. Her parents had a truck farm outside Trenton, I remember them from many yrs. ago, very nice people.
It sounds as if they and you might be from the same lines. Did your John Alan Pillow have a brother named Thomas W. Pillow married to Sarah Gately??? Thomas's parents were Thomas Porter and Sarah Pendergrass Pillow.
