Pillow connection in Giles Co. TN

This is a far stretch but I have been mulling over the census in Giles Co. trying to find something out about my Terry family.
James Terry suddenly appears on the 1836 Giles Co. tax list
Apparently he paid poll tax in 1836 because he did not show to actually own any land.
Just because someone is listed in a tax digest does not necessarily mean that they owned land. Able-bodied males in a certain age range were frequently required to pay a poll tax.

The 1840 Giles Co. census shows this:

All of these people are shown right next to each other in the census

John Pillow - 1 Male 20 to 30, 1 Male 60 to 70, 1 Female 50 to 60

James Terry - 2 Males 20 to 30 (James and his brother John) , 3 Females 0 to 5, 1 Female 20 to 30 and 1 Female 40 to 50 (James' mother Mary "Polly" born about 1790-1792)

Roberts, Wm. - 1 Male 0 to 5, 1 Male 20 to 30, 2 Females 0 to 5, 1 Female 20 to 30 (James sister Elizabeth Terry Roberts)

Pillow, A.G. - 1 Male 0 to 5, I Male 5 to 10, 1 Male 30 tp 40, 2 Females 0 to 5, 1 Female 20 to 30

Williams, Joseph - 1 Male 0 to 5, 1 Male 20 to 30, 3 Females 0 to 5, 1 Female 5 to 10, 1 Female 20 to 30

Williams, Wm. - 2 Males 0 to 5, 1 Male 5 to 10, 1 Male 10 to 15, 1 Male 30 to 40, I Female 0 to 5, 1 Female 5 to 10, 1 Female 10 to 15, 1 Female 15 to 20, 1 Female 40 to 50

(One of James' daughters Collie eventually married a Williams)

James Terry apparently inherited land because I cannot find any record of a deed for him. He sold land in 1860 and 1879 (when he finally left Giles Co.)

I feel like Mary Terry is somehow related to John Pillow. She named her sons John and James and her daughter Elizabeth and there are possibly other children that I don't know about. Plus they were living between Pillow families. Does anyone have any info that might help me? If so, please e mail me at neatstuffgifts@aol.com
