This may explain why Gen. Pillow did not have anymore important commands after Fort Donaldson and was not captured:
From a letter written by Richard Saffell "I am a prisoner of war, on board federal steamer, bound for some United States prison, together with our whole regiment except some who were left behind & the sick & wounded who were sent to Nashville. Gen Pillow is a damned white livered coward, he sold us to save his own carcas & ran on the battle field & hid behind a big poplar tree."
I am posting this becouse I believe it is important to know the truth when doing genealogy even if it is not good.
