Iva Dell (Ford) Pillow, 82, passed away at her home in Indio, CA on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
Iva was born on May 25, 1925 in Goodlett, Texas to Wiley Bert and Ocie Annie (Macon) Ford. She graduated from Coachella Valley High School in June 1942 and then her family moved back to Texas. In 1946 while working at Verdeen's Dress Shop which was being remodeled she met a dashing carpenter named Rodney D. Pillow.
Rod and Iva were married on December 20, 1946 in Amarillo, TX. The carpentry career moved them throughout Texas, to Arizona and back to Texas where they lived until 1956 when they move the family to Indio. Shortly after they bought a home in Coachella where they raised their family and lived until 1977 at which time they moved to a home Rod built for Iva in Pinyon Pines. Unfortunately due to health issues they were not able to stay up on the mountain and moved to Indian Palms Country Club. During the Coachella years they raised a family; participated in their church and were active in various Masonic organizations. In 1965 the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls established an assembly at the Coachella Masonic Lodge and Iva became very involved. She served several years as a Mother Advisor of the local assembly and then moved on to be a Grand Deputy for California Rainbow for Girls. Her husband and her children were her life.
She played golf with Rod and supported her children in their physical, emotional and spiritual development.
Iva was preceded in death by the love of her life Rod in December 1995, her parents and her brother Hubert.
She is survived by her sisters, Winona Marshall (Poteau, OK) and Leone Richardson (Canyon, TX); her children, Richard (Pat) of Ventura, CA, Rhonda (Bob) Holguin of Glendale, CA, Regina Fiegel of Charlotte, NC, Robert (Janice) of Bermuda Dunes, Rebecca (Steve) Due of Long Beach, and Robin (Matt) Seto of Bermuda Dunes. Eight called her "Grandma\": Keith (Audrey) Camarillo, CA Kevin, Craig and Kristin Pillow of Bermuda Dunes, Rodney James McGraw, Palm Desert, SPC Shawn McGraw, US Army, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Erin and Jenna Seto, Bermuda Dunes. Iva's great granddaughter Kaylee McGraw loved her Gramma. Numerous nieces and nephews in California, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma will fondly remember their "Aunt Ivy".
