School in good condition. The district is small but there is a prompt attendance, and a lively interest is being manifested, while a spirit of perfect obedience prevails throughout the entire school. I have now taught four weeks and have not found it necessary to resort to punishment of any kind. I am fully persuaded that love, firmness, patience and right knowledge of human character, has more to do with governing a school than physical strength. Let the teacher by his ardent labor and kindness, win the confidence of the pupils, he can thereby win a prompt and cheerful obedience to all his commands. He can then be assured of an enthusiastic cooperation with all his designs as were the patriarchs of old over their families. He can then say to one go, and he goeth; to another come, and he cometh, and to another do this and he doeth it. We as teachers feel that a great responsibility devolves upon us, that there are entrusted to our keeping the future men and women of our land to be trained in a three-fold channel, the moral, physical and the intellectual, and should we neglect either of these then we are not performing our duty. We feel that we are laboring, not on bronze or stone, but on the fleshy tablets of the heart and on the unfading page of the soul. I will just here say that I have found an intelligent and talented class of pupils, who are not only willing but anxious to receive instruction, and will further say that the good deportment of the pupils indicate good home training, and reflects much credit on the part of the parents. And now parents we appeal to you. Visit our schools and give us your cooperation in this grand and glorious work and we will guarantee success. Time with his relentless hand is stealing away the golden years of youth, and ere you are aware the smallest of these pupils will have drifted into manhood and womanhood and go out to battle with things of this life. A strong and severe warfare it is and nothing can so well equip them for the battle as a well cultivated mind. The day may not be far distant when some of you will be proud to say of their pupils, "he is my son or she is my daughter."

-- MOLLIE A. PRESSLEY.
